School Climate “The quality and character of school life – fosters children’s development, learning and achievement. School climate is based on the patterns of people’s experiences of school life; it reflects the norms, goals, values, interpersonal relationships, teaching, learning and leadership practices, and organizational structures that comprise school life.” As defined by the National School Climate Council - 2007
School Culture • It is not a program, but a way of organizing and running a school. It begins with shared norms, beliefs, values, and goals that results in agreed processes and procedures that produce consistency in practice. • A Cohesive School Culture results in consistent and pervasive adult and student understandings and practices related to: • Behavior • Achievement • Climate
