Social Innovation – the development of a new, better, or more efficient solution Social Entrepreneurship – the development of a business model that supports a social solution Social Enterprise – the business entity itself, one that directly addresses a social problem by employing a particular business model

  3. Twin Cities Social Enterprise Ecosystem: what’s working? Vibrant social enterprises, several of which are becoming national models Dynamic players that mutually support the SE space (SEA, SVP, Engine, Ashoka, GTC United Way) Philanthropic community interested in supporting and growing the SE space locally

  4. Twin Cities Social Enterprise Ecosystem: where are the gaps? Visibility of the wide variety of service offerings provided by local social enterprises Strong collective voice that can promote policy changes in the legislature Committed growth capital that supports “going to scale” in the region Insufficient clarity around roles among the players Very little support for start-up social ventures Almost no research on the sector in the Twin Cities
