  2. Ogives Ribbed Vaults Flying Buttress The pointed archs were used for the structure. Gothic Architecture (1200 to 1400 ) Characteristics Structure

  3. Gothic Architecture and Statues • Date: 12th century • Description: stained glass assumed a unique structural and symbolic importance. • Influence: Since the stained glass was manifested as divine light, it gave the church more inspiration as a church.

  4. Darlene Finnie The Laon Cathedral • Architect: Villard de Honnecourt The Laon Cathedral represents gothic architecture because: • Built in 1160 • There are thick walls all around the cathedral. • There are ribbed vaults around the twin towers. • Located 130km northeast from Paris

  5. Danielle Thrasher York Minister Built by: Oswald of Northumbria Built in: 1338 Located in Northern England The York Minister Cathedral represent gothic architecture because: • The stained glass windows • The Ribbed Vaults

  6. D.Ayisha Jordan Wells Cathedral • Founder: King Ine of Wessex • Constructed : 10th century • Location: Wells, Somerset, England • The Wells Cathedral represents gothic architecture because it is greatly enriched by the deeply sculptural nature of the moldings and the vitality of the carved capitals in a foliate style known as “stiff leaf”.

  7. Art and Gothic Architecture • Title: The Nightmare • Date: 1782 • By: Henry Fuseli • I think that this painting represents Gothic Architecture because gargoyles are suppose to protect from evil and the gargoyle is protecting the body from the evil spirit.

  8. Art and Gothic Architecture • Title: gaudy elizabethan tombs • Date: unknown • This reminds me of the York Minister because it shows how the catholic church has grown.

  9. Art and Gothic Architecture Stained Glass of Saint George • 1400-1410 • I chose this piece of art, because it is made into stained glass and in gothic architecture a lot of stained glass was used for the windows.

  10. Event occurring in the 10th century • David was the second king of the united Kingdom of Israel according to the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. He is depicted as a righteous king—although not without fault—as well as an acclaimed warrior, musician and poet. The biblical chronology places his life c.1037 BC - 967 BC, his reign over Judah c.1007 BC - 1000 BC, and over Judah and Israel c.1000 BC - 967 BC. D.AyishaJordan

  11. D.Ayisha Jordan I designed my floor plan of the Wells Cathedral in the form of an actual cathedral. You can see the similarity in the shapes used for the walls. I also used archways and big doors to represent the gothic architecture.
