COASTAL HABITATS MUST – Prepare a case study of a coastal habitat, to include its characteristics, the resulting habitat, the species that inhabit it and reasons why. SHOULD – Identify threats to the survival of the habitat and strategies to ensure its conservation. COULD – Explain how the area could be both used and conserved at the same time (sustainable use of the area).
COASTAL HABITATS • You have two lessons and a homework to prepare a case study on a coastal habitat (ecosystem). You can work in pairs, but your case study choice will depend upon your target grade. A* + A = Salt Marshes / B + C = Sand Dunes. You should try to include information on: • The habitat characteristics. • The species that live there and how they have adapted to their environment. • Threats to the survival of the habitat. • Strategies to ensure its conservation. • Ways that the habitat can be used sustainably. • Resources available: • Pg 167 - 169 Nelson Thornes (Salt Marshes) • Pg 158 + 159 Oxbox (Sand Dunes) • Handouts(one on each case study). COASTAL HABITATS You can display this in whichever way you choose, but you will have 5 minutes to present your findings to the rest of the group, who will make notes on your case study, using the sheet on the right: MUST – Prepare a case study of a coastal habitat, to include its characteristics, the resulting habitat, the species that inhabit it and reasons why.
