Piedmont/Mountains • Piedmont—gently rolling land between ocean and mountains • Mountains—areas of very high land • Georgia—Blue Ridge Mountains Appalachian Mountains
Wetlands (aka swamps and marshes) • Wetlands—low land covered by water most of the year • Swamp—wetland where mostly trees and other woody plants grow—usually fresh water
Wetlands (cont) • Georgia’s Okefenokee Swamp is the largest freshwater swamp in North America. • Marsh—wetland where mostly soft stemmed plants and grasses grow—usually salt water
Coastal/Ocean Habitats • Georgia’s coast and barrier islands are home to a lot of animals and plants. • Coast—where ocean meets land
Oceans (cont) • Barrier island—a sandy strip of land off shore that protects the mainland • These are pictures of Tybee Island, one of the closest barrier islands.
