Yearbook9/25/12 1. Bell Ringer: What constitutes a well written interview question? Should questions be different for each individual? Examine. 2. Interview Project: • Individually or in a group no larger than four, you will devise at least twenty effective questions that could be posed for an interview. • All questions will be written with provided supplies. • Each individual or group will report out their questions to the class. • As a class, we will construct a master list of effective questions and follow up questions needed for the yearbook. • Discuss homework follow up • Discuss open issues regarding technology, discussion with Mr. Weaver, Jostens rep, theme and suggestion box, announcements (what happened)…? • Homework: You will interview one staff member from Brooks using class devised questions. Note: Each person will sign up for a particular staff member to prevent overlapping interviews.
Yearbook9/28/12 • Bell Ringer: What is your opinion concerning the Chicago transit system? Is it a reliable form of transportation? Explain. • Interview Sign Up. All interviews are to be conducted and completed for Thursday, October 4. • Suggestion box set up. Who is setting this up in the cafeteria and responsible to bring it back? • Develop, print and laminate badges for all staff. Need these for next week. • Set up ladder for yearbook. Based on the conversation with Jostens rep, she stated the ladder should be similar to last years. Let’s look at last years yearbook to diagram ladder. • Pictures, pictures, pictures…Christiana spoke of the importance of pictures that detail the Brooks lifestyle. This will be extremely important for Spirit Week and Homecoming! She will be coming in soon to show us how to run the website and our log in information. Be prepared to spend some time in the computer labs for we can master the site! • We need a copy of the spirit week schedule for we can plan ahead for next week.
Yearbook10/2/12 • Bell Ringer: Provide at least three locations where pictures for spirit week would work best in terms of background and out of the flow of school traffic. • Distribution of technology. Discuss rules and responsibilities of technology. Sign out sheet created. • All interviews are to be conducted and completed by Thursday, October 4. • Spirit week. The yearbook photographers must be on top of this! Did anyone get pictures of the construction of the hallways? Twin day? The rotundas with the decorations and the main foyers on each floor are excellent backgrounds for photos. • Continue to set up ladder for yearbook. • Continue to develop the theme • Jostens rep. Christiana Hackett will speak to us concerning yearbook site.
Yearbook 10/4/12 • Bell Ringer: After Christiana, our advisor, provided a quick tutorial regarding the website, what are some of your concerns about navigating the website? • All interviews are due today! • Discuss school wide website for uploading photos. • Set up log ins and passwords for the yearbook website. • Yearbook ladder needs to be finished ASAP! • Homecoming: Photos, photos, photos, and video…football game, dance, band, crowd, etc…Pass out business cards
Yearbook10/8/12 • Bell Ringer: Describe your most memorable moment from homecoming. • Review photos from homecoming. Discuss images and begin choosing photos for yearbook. • Complete ladder. This is a must! • Write email to Weaver about picture day. What dates are available I would like to have it on a seminar day. • I have over half this class missing their interview. You know who you are…I highly recommend getting this done ASAP.
Yearbook10/26/12 Photo Project: • Take a photo in front of a quote that inspires and illustrates who you are as a person. Refer to the link below for ideas and suggestions. Yearbook 12/20/12 Photo Project: 1. During the holiday season (and honestly most of the time) I think of food. Your next project will be a photo of the food that makes your mouth water. Refer to the link below for ideas and suggestions on how to photograph food. Your photo will be uploaded to the Jostens website under food project. The photo is due January 4. Yearbook Final1/23/13 1. Create your own piece regarding your own pair of shoes/socks/feet. • The rhyme/poem/story needs to include the following: • A picture of the mode of travel that inspired your story • Something specific that your shoes/socks/feet have done that is different from anyone else in this world. • So What? What is the purpose to your tale? Is there a message? • Utilize literary elements in your piece. i.e. figurative language, metaphors, personification, onomatopoeia, etc… • Read examples in class of an ode and rhyme • Open the link below and read the short story by Langston Hughes titled, “Feet Live Their Own Life” for an example of a short story. http://www.swarthmore.edu/Documents/administration/hr/Hughes1.pdf 5. Yearbook 3/15/13 • For your next photo project, you will photograph a sunset. There are various methods to photographing a beautiful sunset. • Included is a website dedicated for a DIY guide to help you with the process. http://www.diyphotography.net/tutorials/sunset-photography-guide • You will submit your photo under the folder labeled ‘sunset project’. The ‘sunset project’ folder will be in the activity folder for the yearbook website. Make sure your name is attached. Pictures without a name attached will not receive credit. • Deadline for the project is 3/29/13.
Yearbook5/3/13 • Special Olympics: The Special Olympics is scheduled for May 7(Tuesday). Yearbook Staff will create posters to support the participants and cheer them on as they depart for the Olympics. We will bring our posters to the 1st floor Tuesday and root them on. • Yearbook Sales. Grades go in a week from today. Make sure you sign up to sell yearbooks in the cafeteria. • Senior class project? Anyone interested? • Yearbooks come in the second week of June!
Yearbook5/5/13 • Send off for the Special Olympics. Will also take place Thursday. • Don’t forget to sign up and work the yearbook sales. Grades are due Friday. Each of you are responsible for at least one lunch period selling yearbooks. All materials are in my mailbox in the main office. • Assignment: Complete a 1pg. commentary regarding any article from the R_WURD. Or 1pg. Commentary regarding a piece from ‘Vice’
Yearbook Final Exam Pt. 15/22/13 Dear Yearbook: Today you will write a column for next year’s yearbook staff. The column will include all practical advice necessary in order for next year’s yearbook to be successful. Please be bluntly honest in your advice. What are our expectations for next year’s staff? What should they avoid? What tribulations will occur and what is your advice in overcoming the adversity?
Yearbook Final Exam Pt. 25/30/13 Postcard Project: • Each of you will create a postcard that briefly outlines your experiences and travels at the exotic locale of Brooks College Preparatory. • Think of the purpose of a postcard: The power of one still photograph, its symbolism, and the jotting down of a few important thoughts. • Each postcard will contain at least one vivid image that sums up your vision of what it is or was like at Brooks. This can be any image. • Audience: A friend, family member or teacher. • These can be emailed or printed. ajrudnicki@cps.edu • Due date: June 5th.
Yearbook Final Exam Pt. 35/30/13 Respond to the following: Explain why you believe that you are an integral part of the yearbook staff, what you have brought to the class this semester, and your role in the production of the yearbook. Discuss your strengths and your weaknesses and what grade should be attached to your performance this semester and why.
Yearbook5/30/13 • Yearbooks have been shipped and will arrive next week. Only those who have purchased the yearbook in advance will receive the first copies. This includes yearbook staff. • Yearbook sales will continue. Discuss procedure. • Replay It-Student access to all pictures and video of prom.
