Physical Adaptation’s: • They have a long tail to help them have amazing balance. It also helps them leap from tree to tree and branch to branch. • They have nimble fingers and hands/feet to help them hold and open fruit, hold prey and climb trees. It also helps them leap and bound from tree to tree and branch to branch like their tail. • Short legs and thighs to help them jump with force. • The first few months after the baby is born, they cling to their mom to watch, learn, and survive. The mother Squirrel Monkey protects their young very well. • Their eyes and ears help them see and hear predators approaching or near by. • Behavior Adaptation’s: • They distribute a musky glandular secretion throughout their fur, (only if they feel threatened) this sent it to mark territory or leave a trail for others in their troop. The odor turns away predators or hunters that might have killed them. • Feed and hang around in groups, lowers the chance of larger monkeys chasing them out of trees. Also so there is more eyes and ears listening and watching for predators. • Live in canopy so its harder for predators to get them. • Have a fast unique way of climbing that helps them get away from predators quickly. • The color of fur helps the Squirrel Monkeys blend into their surroundings. • Usually quite, but they cry when alarmed.
