  2. What is a Prime Number? • A number that is divisible ONLY by one and itself • Its factors are only 1 and itself • What are numbers that are not prime numbers called? • Composite numbers

  4. What are the factors of 10? 10 • Is 1 a prime or composite number? • Which are the prime factors?

  5. Factor Tree • Using the Factor Tree Method we will determine the prime factors that two numbers have in common: 12 18

  6. Greatest Common Factor • AKA the GCF • GCF = the common factors in both factor trees

  7. Lowest Common Multiple • AKA the LCM • LCM = GCF x uncommon factors

  8. LCM • What must you figure out before you can determine the LCM? • Strategies for finding the LCM

  9. Where Do I Start? • Peter’s dad put cookies in bags with the same number in each. Peter has 30 cookies all together in his bags and his brother has 18 cookies altogether. How many cookies could his dad have put in each bag?

  10. Your Turn 2. The planet Zerk has two moons. Tonight the two moons are directly in line with each other and with the planet’s sun. Moon 1 can be viewed in this same location every 10 days. Moon 2 can be viewed in this same location every 15 days. When is the next time that both moons will be in this same location?
