Snyder ISD Excellence in Everything Proposed New $28.8 Million Junior High $15 Million Bond Issue
Long Term Goals • Create capacity to meet demands of current enrollment and modest growth • Move students out of portables at Stanfield and current Junior High campuses • Provide excellent facilities for our students and community for many years to come
Why Build? Average JH Enrollment from 2004-2012 was 572
Snyder Elementary School • 1200 student capacity • 1300 students at Elementary during 2012-2013 school year • Current Elementary Enrollment - 1062 • Moved Kindergarten (222 students) to Stanfield Elementary • 6 classes (1/2 of Kindergarten) in new portable building (temporary solution) • The district is using 15 classrooms in portable buildings
Junior High Campus • Current Enrollment at JH campus– • 550 student capacity (excluding portables) • Current JH Enrollment – 597 • Goal – • Teach 2 grade levels (4th & 5th Grades) at current JH campus • Remove portable classrooms • Common areas such as cafeteria and gyms are more appropriate for 4-5 campus.
Why A New 6-8 Junior High? • Current campus too small • Need a new 3 grade level campus to meet needs of currently enrolled students and allow for gradual growth. • Creates capacity needed at elementary • New elementary campus opened in 2007 • Construction of new secondary campus has not occurred since 1950’s.
Site Location Land East of Airport • This 29.3 acre site gives the district the acreage needed to accommodate a junior high school.
How do we pay for it? • Total cost approximately $28.8 million • Bond Issue – asking voters to pay for $15 million • District will pay for costs above $15 million out of fund balance • Extend payoff from 2026 to 2034 assuming values remain consistent • No increase in tax rate
