  1. Thank you for completing your online application. Your next step is to review this slide show. When you finish, print the last page and bring it to Student Services when you come to activate your application.

  2. The decision to attend college takes a minimum of 3 things on your part: • Knowing what you want to study (“just signing up for classes” wastes time and $$); • Committing to coming to class and doing the homework; and 3. Deciding how you will pay for your education.

  3. Deciding what to study… • Do you want a two year college degree? OR • Do you want to take classes to learn practical job skills? OR • Do you want to START your education at CVCC and transfer to a 4 year college or university? Decide what you want; we’ll help you get there.

  4. Commit to attend class and do homework… • It’s hard to be successful if you don’t attend class and do the homework. CVCC faculty expect you to come to class prepared to learn. • CVCC has lots of resources to help you academically. • Think about the impact of adding college on top of your already busy life: work, family, finances, kids, responsibilities, transportation issues.

  5. Paying for college… • Tuition is about $725 per semester for 2010-11 for a full time student (four classes is usually full time). • Books are an extra expense and can cost between $200 - $800 per semester. • Tuition may be paid by cash, check, credit cards, debit card, a college payment plan (3 equal payments plus a “sign on” fee) or financial aid.

  6. Getting financial aid… • It all starts with completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online. There are federal deadlines for completing the FAFSA: March 15 for Fall aid, May 15 for summer aid, October 15 for Spring aid. • Filing the FAFSA is only the first step of the financial aid process – you will be asked to supply supporting documents until your aid is completely processed.

  7. IMPORTANT! No financial aid is awarded until you have completed the entire admissions process outlined below: 1.) Accurately completed and submitted the FAFSA, 2.) Met with an admissions counselor to process your online application, 3.) Taken placement testing (if needed) and 4.) Had all official transcripts sent to CVCC.

  8. REMEMBER… • No financial aid is awarded until you have met with an admissions counselor. FAFSAs without CVCC admission applications are not processed. • Financial Aid award notifications are sent to your CVCC student email account. This email account is set up for you after your admissions visit. READING YOUR EMAIL IS VERY IMPORTANT.

  9. What’s next? • Bring a photo ID (driver’s license)to Student Services and meet with an admissions counselor. • Sooner is always better than later. There are application deadlines. • Check the CVCC website for Student Services operating hours. • Print this page and bring it with you.
