Integrated Library System • UNCW uses Millenium ILS, along with ILLiad • They are currently switching to OCLC WorldShare Management Services • Server for three schools, UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Pembroke, and Fayetteville State • Called coastal consortium • RAID drives for backup memory. • Move to “cloud computing”
Human Component • Dan believes the human component is most important • Students can text the university, email librarians, call or even instant message chat with the librarians. • Librarians will always be important to help train how to utilize the school’s technology
Role of Technology • Central to library • Different computers including, Dells using Microsoft, Apple computers, IPADs, and even specific Bloomberg computers for software trading. • Focus on online journals, e-reserves, links to websites and other libraries and databases
Keeping Up Professionally • Dan recommends using: • Professional journals, multidisciplinary approach • Listsserves • Websites • Most important for Dan is webinars because cost effective approach
Assessing Usability • User surveys only once every several years • Google Analytics for website traffic • LibQUAL+ • In depth study, but in between use good judgment and listen to students and faculty
