  15. Skills of inference A hard skill to learn but very important. It is being an active reader – using your existing knowledge to draw conclusions and make connections Taking things you know about and applying them to other situations. We infer without thinking when we watch TV/movies – look at body language/gestures etc

Top tips for parents • Let your child repeat after you • Repeat books over and over • Read to your child • Tell your child they have tried hard, give them a tip to improve if you can • Do not try to read with your child when they are hungry/tired/upset • Give your child time • Don’t get frustrated with them • Make reading a routine part of the day
