Backstage View • After you click the File tab, you can see the Microsoft Office Backstage view • The Office Backstage view is where you manage your files and the data about them — creating, saving, inspecting for hidden metadata or personal information, and setting options
Info Tab • The Info tab displays different commands, properties, etc. depending on the state of the document and where it is stored • Commands on the Info tab can include Check In, Check Out, and Permissions. • Commands in the Backstage view are highlighted depending on how important it is for the user to notice and interact with the commands.
Compatibility Mode • Some functions are limited when viewing older versions of a document • Must save as a .docx to have full capabilities • Word 97-2003 saves as a .doc, Word 2010 saves as a .docx • BE CAREFUL when sending files to others in Word 2010 – if they don’t have Word 2010, they will not be able to open the file
Protecting Documents • In Microsoft Office 2010, you can use passwords to help prevent other people from opening or modifying your documents, workbooks, and presentations • **NOTE: It’s important to remember your password because Microsoft cannot retrieve your forgotten passwords
Password Protection • 1. In an open document, click the File tab • The Backstage view opens • 2. In the Backstage view, click Info • 3. In Permissions, click Protect Document
Mark as Final • When a document is marked as final, typing, editing commands, and proofing marks are disabled or turned off and the document becomes read-only • The Mark as Final command helps you communicate that you are sharing a completed version of a document • ALSO FOUND ON THE REVIEW RIBBON!
Encrypt with Password • When you select Encrypt with Password, the Encrypt Document dialog appears • In the Password box, type a password • Important: keep a list of your passwords and corresponding file names in a safe place
Restrict Editing Three options appear: • Formatting restrictions: this reduces formatting options. Click Settings to select which style are allowed. • Editing restrictions: you control how the file can be edited or you can disable editing. Click Exceptions or More users to control those who can edit (through Windows Live ID accounts). • Start enforcement : Click Yes, Start Enforcing Protection to select password protection or user authentication.
