Who are Parent to Parent? Mission Statement Empowering parents, caregivers and whanau who have children and family members with disabilities, health impairments, or special needs through support and provision of information
Video Conferencing More than just a phone call
AGM & Special Meetings The Head Injury Society has used the Parent to Parent video conferencing units in Hamilton and Invercargill. “We are a community group with limited funding and are required to have all Head Injury Society working Committees and/or members together for our AGM and Special meetings. This is possible with the VC services provided by Parent to Parent.” Ella Scheepers, Office Administrator
Learning & Networking “The Werry Centre is delighted to have been able to work with Parent to Parent to ensure the widest possible national participation in learning opportunities.” “Twice in the last year, we have been able to extend our opportunities for learning and networking. It is ever-more expensive and inconvenient for those working in the sector to travel for learning opportunities, and the ability to participate from a distance has greatly enhanced our ability to make seminars and meetings available to a wider audience.” Pauline Proud, Werry Centre Co-ordinator
Recruitment “As the Family Support Manager at Heart Children I have used the video conferencing network for interviewing and team meetings. I would use it again as it costs us a quarter of the amount it would have to bring our team to Auckland.” Shona Harvey, Family Support Manager

Support Parent Training 18 hour (three day) training course
Training Issues • Training course compulsory for volunteers • Lots of interest but spread nationwide • Increasing costs • Insufficient trainers for some courses leading to added expense of accommodation, flights etc
Research • Course structure • Key objectives for each element • Participant and trainer feedback
Solutions • Identify possible course modules • Get people together to receive training • Allow trainers to deliver training locally
In Practice • Utilised Video Conferencing • Modularised the training course in different ways • Merged regional courses • Provided awareness sessions
Parent Support Programme Three modules, two compulsory
