POSITION ON TIME GRAPHS. The Axis. The X-axis is time The Y-axis is position This needs to go positive and negative. – Position (m) + . Time (s). Upward lines. Upward lines (positive slopes) mean the object is going forward / right Steeper lines mean faster velocity.

The Axis • The X-axis is time • The Y-axis is position • This needs to go positive and negative – Position (m) + Time (s)
Upward lines • Upward lines (positive slopes) mean the object is going forward / right • Steeper lines mean faster velocity – Position (m) + Time (s)
Downward lines • Downward lines (negative slope) mean the object is moving backwards or left. • Steeper lines mean faster velocity – Position (m) + Time (s)
Horizontal line • A horizontal or flat line means that the object is not moving (staying at the same position). • Flat lines mean no velocity – Position (m) + Time (s)
Calculating velocity • These graphs can show velocity by calculating the slope • The steeper the slope the faster the object’s velocity • Slope is rise / run. So (positionf – positioni) / (timef – timei)
Practice 1, 2, 3, & 4 – Position (m) + Time (s)
