SPEAKER Professor Katsuki Kusakabe, Fukuoka Women’s University Japan SEMINAR TITLES 1. Advances in biodiesel production from triglyceride and methanol 2. Advances ingas separation using microporous ceramic membranes TIME AND VENUE 10:00 - 11:15 am, 5th of August 2010, Undercroft Seminar Room 2 BACKGROUND OF THE SPEAKER Professor Kusakabe received a baccalaureate and Masters degrees in chemical engineering from Kyushu University, Japan, in 1977 and 1979. He received a PhD in Engineering from the same university in 1982. Currently he is a Professor in the Department of Living Environmental Science and the Director of University-Industry Collaboration Center at Fukuoka Women’s University, Japan. His research interest includes development of microreactors, high efficiency biodiesel production process, coal gasification, inorganic separation membranes and preparation of environmentally friendly materials. He has published more than 100 peer reviewed papers on the subjects described above. He has also written several books on microreactor, inorganic separation membrane and biodiesel production. For the seminar, he will present his recent achievements as entitled above. Following his seminar, his students will present their current research outcomes from 11:15 am to 12:30 pm: 1) Biodiesel production 2) Preparation of Au nano-particles 3) Bio-plastic composite 4) Development of high water absorptive cellulosic polymer This is a good opportunity to start and nurture intra-faculty and intra-student relationships between UTP and universities in Japan.
