St. Francis Table

In memory of Mike Baker, Local 1996-0 will be continuing his work to help those less fortunate at Local 1996-0 Where:St. Francis Table / St. Clare Centre1322 Queen Street WestToronto, OntarioM6K 1L4 When:Wednesday, December 11th 11:45am – 1:15pm St. Francis Table Local 1996-0 will be sponsoring and volunteering at St. Francis Table on December 11th, serving 250 turkey dinners with all the fixings to those less fortunate in our community. St. Francis Table is a restaurant dedicated to providing meals and a welcoming environment for the needy of our community. Half of their patrons are post-psychiatric patients who are unable to work due to their illness. Many of them spend most of their meager income on accommodation. About one quarter of patrons are senior citizens who come for nourishment and companionship. They also provide meals to single parents, refugees, the unemployed, transients, ex-convicts and people living in our city’s streets, parks and alleys.

2. St. Francis Table is a restaurant dedicated to providing meals and a welcoming environment for the needy of our community. Patrons receive full restaurant service at the tables. They are presented with a choice of two different meals, as well as soup, hot and cold beverage, followed by dessert. A donation of one dollar is requested, not simply as a subsidy, but rather to help our brothers and sisters retain their sense of dignity. In keeping with the Franciscan heritage, no one is turned away without the offer of a meal. It is thefocus on the dignity of our brothers and sisters and the building of community with thepatrons that distinguishes St. Francis Table from other service providers to the poor.
