  7. Experimental Facilities Division Tasks Manage safe operations in LCLS experimental areas Manage LCLS user program Maintain and upgrade X-ray instrumentation Enable good user science; initiate in-house research

  8. XFD processes • Strong ties between XFD and ASD • ASD operating structure used as a model for XFD • Preparing key processes and documentation • XFD directives: describe roles/responsibilities and prescribed actions • XFD training plan and training records plan • SAD, ASE to include NEH • Instrument Readiness Review (IRR) process for adding capability to LCLS experimental area incrementally

  9. XFD operations roles • XFD Director • Develop long-range goals, schedules • Authorize significant changes in operation • Delegate operations authority to Operations Head • XFD Safety Officer • Oversee safety aspects of all XFD activities • Participate in scheduling • Participate in development of hazard mitigation plans • Operations Head • Manage operations • User Administration • Detailed User scheduling • User logistics and general training

  10. XFD operations roles, cont. • Area Manager • Coordinate activities in area • Manage maintenance in area • Release work in area • Floor Coordinator • 24/7 coverage • Release all work involving x-ray beams • Instrument Scientist • Release work on instrument • Participate in scheduling • Manage maintenance of instrument • Supervise Users

  11. XFD staffing • XFD began 2009 with some staff in place • J. Schneider, J. Hastings, J. Arthur (upper management) • H. Tompkins (NEH Area Manager) • P. Stefan, S. Moeller (diagnostics physicists) • N. van Bakel (detector physicist) • J. Bozek (AMO scientist) • D. Fritz, A. Robert, S. Boutet, Y. Feng (LUSI scientists) • Matrix support from Laser group, Controls group, DAQ group, Rad Physics A total of about 20 people

  12. XFD staffing • New staff supporting XFD early operations • Z. Van Hoover (XFD Safety Officer) • J. Bringetto (XFD Documentation Specialist) • H. Kamil (LCLS User Admin) • C. Bostedt (AMO scientist) • D. Rich, J-C Castagna, M. Holmes (operations engineers) • C. Brown, D. Peterswright, W. Polzin (Floor Coordinators) • Being hired, needed for AMO commissioning • 3 more Floor Coordinators (offers going out now) • Coming soon, not essential for AMO commissioning • Additional technicians • Administrator • Additional scientists
