The Grants for Excellence program provides funding to Saginaw County schools for creative educational initiatives and projects not currently supported by school budgets.
Saginaw Community Foundation Grant$ for Excellence SCF • This program is meant to: • Enhance student experiences and curriculum activities • Develop projects to facilitate different learning styles • Motivate student curiosity and learning • Supplement additional funding sources • Purchase educational materials and/or bring non-traditional resources to the classroom • Develop and share innovative methods and tools for teaching • Inspire professional development and growth
Saginaw Community Foundation Grant$ for Excellence SCF Who is eligible to apply? All Saginaw County Pre-K through-12 grade teachers and instructional staff. How much can you apply for? The typical grant award is between $500 - $750, with a maximum grant award of $1,000. How much funding is available? Although the amount available varies from year to year, the average amount for each year is about $12,000.
Saginaw Community Foundation Grant$ for Excellence SCF • Excluded Programs: • Renovation of facilities • Religious activities and teachings • Computer hardware or software, unless it is an integral part of a proposed innovative activity • Trips, unless they are an integral part of a proposed innovative activity • “Bags of Books” projects • Tuition for academic degree programs or classes • Accelerated reading and math programs • Sound systems • Video equipment and cameras, unless it is an integral part of a proposed innovative activity
Saginaw Community Foundation Grant$ for Excellence SCF • How are recipients chosen? • Applications are reviewed on a competitive basis by an advisory committee consisting of civic and community volunteers and educators • All applications are reviewed without the identity of the educator or their school • Each application is reviewed and scored by five reviewers and the scores are averaged
Saginaw Community Foundation Grant$ for Excellence SCF • The advisory committee evaluates individual proposals based on: • Number or students involved in and/or benefiting from the project • Expected impact of the program • Effectiveness of the activity or program • Potential to improve student achievement and morale • Cost effectiveness • Enhancement of the skills of teachers and support staff • Potential for continuation and/or replication

Saginaw Community Foundation Grant$ for Excellence SCF For the 2009-2010 academic year, the Saginaw Community Foundation received “Grants for Excellence” requests for 42 projects with a total request of $30,675. We were able to award eight of those 42 requests for a total amount of $5220. We were unable to fund 83% of the projects.
