Federal Politics • 1874 Elected as Liberal MP • Argued the oppression of the Métis • “Had I been born on the banks of the Saskatchewan, I myself would have shouldered a musket to fight against the neglect of governments and the shameless greed of land speculators” • 1877 became minister of inland revenue • 1878 Liberals lose election • 1885 Riel is hanged • 1887 Becomes leader of liberal party • 1896 Becomes 7th Canadian Prime Minister
