  3. What is the BCP? • The Biotechnology Coalition of the Philippines (BCP) is a broad-based multi-sectoral coalition of advocates for the safe and responsible use of modern biotechnology for the country

  4. BCP Farmer Organizations BCP Members Science and Academic Community Church, Media, Other CSOs Public Institutions Industry Associations

  5. Mission Statement “To contribute to national development goals of eradicating poverty, achieving food security, improving health, and sustaining the environment by harnessing the actual and potential benefits of modern biotechnology through its safe and responsible use.”

  6. Spearheading multi-stakeholder support to ensure science-based, transparent, and effective regulations of modern biotechnology

  7. ACTIVITIES 1a. Writing letters to editors, opinion and policy makers to update them of issues and concerns on effective biotechnology regulations. 2b. Sending them information kits on: a) biotechnology products and applications, and b) the strict regulatory assessment these products underwent to assure product safety.

  8. ACTIVITIES • Organizing IEC (Information, Education and Communication)-related activities to ensure a science-based policy regulatory environment • e.g. public seminars, FAQ fora, workshops, dialogues with target groups • for members of the church, media, science teachers, the food and feed industries, and the general public

  9. ACTIVITIES • Coordinating with stakeholders in the conduct of other biotech-related activities • e.g. rally in support of the DA Secretary for his steadfast support of science-based biosafety assessment • e.g. with industry stakeholders, placing of newspaper advertisement in support of Bt corn commercialization in the Philippines

  10. ACTIVITIES • Active participation (as resource persons or as regular participants) in public forums conducted by government in drafting regulations for biotech products and applications: • DA-AO No. 8 • proposed National Biosafety Framework
