  2. Alexander Graham Bell • He was born March 3, 1847 in Scotland • In 1870, at age 23, he and his parents immigrated to Canada. • Many called Bell "the father of the deaf". With both his mother and wife deaf, he hoped to eliminate hereditary deafness.   4. Greta Garbo • Greta Garbo was born Greta Lovisa Gustafsson on September 18, 1905.   5. Elizabeth Blackwell • She immigrated from England in 1832 with her family. • Elizabeth Blackwell was the first woman doctor in America. Many people did not approve of a woman as a doctor and would not let her practice medicine in the hospitals. Therefore she treated women and children in her home and later in the slums of New York.
