  1. Matthew 28:18-20 The Great Commission omission

  2. The Great Commission … • Not written to those with a “special calling” • Written to all who follow Jesus • “Make Disciples” • … as you go, wherever you go • … baptizing in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit • … teaching to obey everything Christ has commanded

  3. The Great Commission Omission • If non-Christians are not hearing the gospel and being challenged to make a decision for Christ, then the church has omitted one part of the Great Commission. • If new converts are not faithfully and lovingly nurtured in the whole counsel of God’s revelation, then the Church has omitted the other part of the Great Commission.

  4. The Great Omission: Reclaiming Jesus’ Essential Teachings on Discipleship by Dallas Willard • …will those who profess to be Christians become disciples – students, apprentices, practitioners – of Jesus Christ? • Spirituality in many Christian circles has simply become another dimension of Christian consumerism, Christians who consume Christian services and think it is Christian faith.

  5. The Great Omission: Reclaiming Jesus’ Essential Teachings on Discipleship by Dallas Willard • There is a notable heresy that has come into evangelical Christian circles … “ a widely accepted concept that we humans can choose to accept Christ only because we need Him as Savior and that we have the right to postpone our obedience to Him as Lord as long as we want to!” A.W. Tozer

  6. The Great Challenge Today Become the people of God through the transforming work of the Holy Spirit in Jesus Christ. What begins at conversion, concludes with sanctification. The process in-between is discipleship. Don’t stop short!
