Focus and Review • review what was taught the other day, synonyms • have them give examples of synonyms- have table groups come up with synonyms, and write them on the board for later use • tell them we are going to learn about the opposite of synonyms, antonyms
Objective • teach students what an antonym is • a word that has a meaning opposite of another • make sure students are able to give examples of antonyms • students should be able to complete given worksheet
Input • give my own examples of what an antonym is • tall and short are opposites therefore they are antonyms • cold and hot • old and young
Guided Practice • together, the students will work in their table groups to come up with antonyms for the synonyms they found in the beginning of class • someone from each group will write their antonyms on the board next to the correct synonym they used • after we go over their examples, i will give examples and have them tell me if they are antonyms or not • hot and warm; tall and short; in and over • at this time, I will walk around to make sure they have no questions, and if they do I will answer them
Independent Practice • individually the students will complete a worksheet on antonyms • this is independent work without my input • after they complete it, we will check to make sure they got the questions correct • I will answer any questions the students have
Closure/ Reflection • closure will be going over the answers to the worksheet and answering any last questions the students have • I will have them each give an example of what they learned today
