Wherever the Napoleonic Code was implemented (conquered lands) it swept away once and for all the old feudal obligations of the peasants.

Napoleon’s Wars and Foreign Policy • Battle of Austerlitz (1805) • Third Coalition of Austria, Russia, Sweden & Britain collapses. • In 1806, Napoleon reorganizes the Holy Roman Empire states • into a new “German Confederation of the Rhine” which • excludes Austria, Prussia and Saxony. • PRUSSIA takes issue with Napoleon’s expansion and attacks • France, but loses to Napoleon in 10/1806. • Under the Treaty of Tilsit (1806) • Prussia lost lands including half its population. • Russia accepts Continental System • Closed his territories and ports to all British goods • (basically all of Europe was not allowed to buy any • British goods!) • WHY focus on Great Britain?? • After Trafalgar, he knew he must defeat Britain in • order to fully control Europe.
