  2. Give us this day our daily bread

  3. What pray for “bread?” • Bread here means everything we need, not just food.

  4. What is meant by daily bread? • Luther explains like this: • Daily bread includes everything that has to do with the support and needs of the body, Not only food and shelter, but also including:

  5. And, • good government, good weather, peace, health, self-control, good reputation, good friends, faithful neighbors, and the like.

  6. How does this prayer help us? • 1) Takes away worry --- • Because we know God wants to give us the things we need. • Look at what Jesus said:

  7. Jesus said, • Look at the birds of the air. They do not plant, or harvest, or gather their food into barns, and yet your heavenly father takes care of them. Are you not worth much more than they? • (Matthew 6:26)

  8. How does this prayer help us? • 2) reminds us what a loving God we have. • See what Jesus said:

  9. He (God) causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the wicked.Matthew 5:45

  10. Since God will give it to us anyway, • So why pray? • Luther explains it like this:

  11. What does this mean? (Luther) • God helps everyone, not only Christians, but by saying this prayer we are realizing that god does this to us, and we are thanking him for it.

  12. So how does this prayer help us? • 3) Helps us avoid bragging. • After all, as the Bible says, • What do you have that was not given to you?(1 Corinthians 4:7)

  13. Instead of bragging, • We live a life full of gratitude. • This is a much happier life. • There is one more question …

  14. HOW does God give us “daily bread?” • Does a big hand emerge out of the clouds … • With a sandwich in it? • No, God uses another way …

  15. God answers our prayer for “daily bread” • Through other people! • Need food? God uses farmers. • Need justice? God uses lawyers and judges. • Need education? God uses teachers. • What does that mean for you?

  16. You also are God’s hand • You also are one of God’s ways to answer people’s prayers. • Whatever job you end up with, you are God’s tool to answer the prayers of other people. Your life and your job are HIGHLY IMPORTANT.

  17. Your job does more than earn money • Your job is the way God gives people their “daily bread,” • Are you a businessman? You are making it possible for people to buy things. • Are you a doctor? You are helping God answer peoples’ prayers for good health. • End of lesson. On to guessing:
