FIRST READING R: The first reading for the Last Sunday of the Church Year, Day of the Fulfilment, also known as 'Christ the King', is written in chapter twenty three of Jeremiah beginning at verse twenty one. Jeremiah23:1-6 CEV The Lord will raise up a righteous Branch
Jeremiah 23:1-6 R: The LORD said: You leaders of my people are like shepherds that kill and scatter the sheep. 2You were supposed to take care of my people, but instead you chased them away. So now I'll really take care of you, and believe me, you will pay for your crimes!
Jeremiah 23:1-6 3I will bring the rest of my people home from the lands where I have scattered them, and they will grow into a mighty nation. 4I promise to choose leaders who will care for them like real shepherds. All of my people will be there, and they will never again be frightened.
Jeremiah 23:1-6 5Someday I will appoint an honest king from the family of David, a king who will be wise and rule with justice. 6As long as he is king, Israel will have peace, and Judah will be safe. The name of this king will be "The LORD Gives Justice." This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

Psalm: Luke 1:68-79CEV R: 70Long ago the Lord promised by the words of his holy prophets 71to save us from our enemies and from everyone who hates us. C: 72God said he would be kind to our people and keep his sacred promise.
Psalm: Luke 1:68-79CEV R: 73He told our ancestor Abraham 74that he would rescue us from our enemies. C: Then we could serve him without fear, 75by being holy and good as long as we live.

Colossians 1:11-20 13God rescued us from the dark power of Satan and brought us into the kingdom of his dear Son, 14who forgives our sins and sets us free. 15Christ is exactly like God, who cannot be seen. He is the first-born Son, superior to all creation.

Colossians 1:11-20 19God himself was pleased to live fully in his Son. 20And God was pleased for him to make peace by sacrificing his blood on the cross, so that all beings in heaven and on earth would be brought back to God. This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.
Alleluia VERSE C: Alleluia, alleluia. To all those who have, more will be given; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away. Alleluia.
