TaxWise Desktop Enhancements- TY 2012 • Security Manager – New Group called Preparer • Any user assigned to the Preparer Group does not have access to the following: • Transmit e-files • Get Acks • Return explorer • Setup Options • Strengthen the Security when resetting the ADMIN password • View Authorization • moved to the Help menu • Includes tabs for Individual, Bank and Business modules

  4. TaxWise Desktop Enhancements- TY 2012 • Backup\Restore will include three options • 1. Regular Backup • This option works as our current back-up option does • 2. E-File Backup • Should be used for transferring e-files and data from non-networked computers to Transmitting Computer • 3. Option to Archive Data • Returns from all users • All previously deleted returns • All associated Database records • Does not include any re-creatable files such as e-files • Will overwrite any existing backup on the same media

TaxWise Desktop Enhancements- TY 2012 • Admin User Enhancements • Ability to enable auto save (F2) for returns • Change the time intervals of saving • Schedule automatic downloads of module updates from EFC • Defaults to 7:30 AM EST • A message box will appear if the Admin user clicks on Start New Return or uses Ctrl+N • This should decrease calls to customer support

TaxWise Desktop Enhancements- TY 2012 • Preparer Use Form • Option to carry forward • Carries forward both questions and answers • Taxpayer Reminders • Preparers enter information they want to see the following year • New option in Carryforward>Prior Year Data to import from 2011 to 2012 • When the SSN is entered a dialog box appears with the information the preparer entered • Preparer has option to show each time return is opened • Setup Options>General Tab

TaxWise Online Enhancements- TY 2012 • TaxWise Online Training and Practice Lab • Time out increased to 60 minutes on Oct 1st- currently 20 min • Reject Details • View and print from inside TaxWise Online • Allows easier access to see and resolve rejects • Add Client telephone number in Client letters • Daytime and Evening numbers • County Codes will be selected from a drop down list inside the return

TaxWise Online Enhancements- TY 2012 • Send Templates/Settings Enhancements • Tracks which sites templates, return stages and custom fields have been sent to • Easier to manage multiple sites • Preparer Use Form • Administrators have an option to carry forward the Prep Use Form during the prior year carry forward process from the Advanced Settings Page • Publish templates created in TaxWise Online Training 2012 to TaxWise 2012 production • Create templates from the Master Template in Training then publish to production • Allows the site the ability to start a new return to ensure the templates are setup as expected

TaxWise Online Alternative Preparation Solution • Benefits of having an Alternative Preparation Solution • Catastrophic failure at SFS • Internet outage at the site • Enhance the roving capability at temporary locations with no internet access • Three primary take-aways from February • Premise based solution that allows sites to prepare and print • Do not need the ability to transmit from both application platforms • Need the ability to transfer returns from Desktop to Online • High-Level Alternative Preparation Solution • TaxWise Online registration codes activate limited feature sets in desktop for return preparation, printing and transporting to TaxWise Online • TaxWise Online converts transported desktop returns to TaxWise Online returns for the purposes of return storage and electronic filing

  10. Enhancement: Alternative Preparation Solution After completing the return in TW Desktop, run diagnostics and then click on Mark to Transfer

  11. Enhancement: Alternative Preparation Solution • The next step will be to transfer the returns to TaxWise Online. • The application will not allow the site to transfer returns if TaxWise Online is not available

TaxWise Online Alternative Preparation Solution • The TaxWise Online ADMIN user or any user with the Administrator role will have the ability to see a Retrieve Return link in TaxWise Online • Links will indicate if the return is active in an existing TaxWise Online User • Administrator will have to choose to use the originally created return or the transferred return • TaxWise Online verifies the transferred return was created with at least the minimum version required for sending e-files • TaxWise Online will update calculations if the administrator choose to continue with the return • The returns MUST be moved to a user prior to editing • Once the return has been moved, then the process follows the established site procedures and processes

  13. TWO Enhancement: Creating the diary A new button on the toolbar The diary will automatically record the user you are logged in as, the day, date and time. A new icon will appear in the Existing return list to the left of the TIN

Enhancements for TW Desktop and TWO TY 2012 • Schedule B – seller financed mortgages • New 25 line statement • Can be duplicated  • Located directly below Sch B in the forms tree • 2441 – New Worksheets • Merged care provider and additional qualifying children into one worksheet • Up to 8 additional providers and 8 qualifying children can be listed • Prior year credit explanation • IRS requiring more information

Enhancements for TW Desktop and TWO TY 2012 • State Returns • Linked state returns require Federal acceptance before sending • 8949 IRS required changes • 6 page form – 3 page 1s and 3 page 2s • Users will only duplicate transactions exceeding available space • TCE/VITA information page added to solution center • Diagnostic warning added if the EIN on an income document is the same as the SSN for the taxpayer or spouse on a return • Improves the users ability to catch typographical errors in the return

Enhancements for TW Desktop and TWO TY 2012 • 1040 Line 21 Other Income • New Worksheet for reporting Miscellaneous Income • Includes 16 additional income lines • New diagnostics will be added • Income from another form auto-populates the worksheet with amount and type • 1099-Misc income • link to worksheet then to 1099M.
