Is Heys a creative school? Presented by: Jodie, Callum, Lee, Ellen and Natalie
Do people think your school is creative? • Teachers – 55% think it’s creative eg when children give their own ideas. Some teachers think allowing creativity causes chaos and bad behaviour. • Students – 68% think it’s creative eg there’s enough space for everyone to create big projects; teachers allow children to design things. Other students think there is not enough fun in lessons.
Student voice questions 3 & 6 Teachers:3)what two years of students are the most creative? 6)What creative things would people like to see happen in our school?
Findings from Question 3 –Teachers • 40 % of teachers asked think Yr 7 is most creative • 33 % think year 10 is creative • 0% of teachers think year 9 is creative • Only 6% of teachers think year 11 & 6th form are creative
Questions about findings • Why are year 7 and 10 most creative? • Why did year 9 get no nominations ? • Can teaching and learning in exam years be as creative as in other years? • Do teachers feel that they cant be creative in years 9, 11 and sixth form?
What creative things would people like to see happen in your school? • Teachers –visits and visitors • Students – teachers explain things more clearly
The Creative Activities and Initiatives Teachers say would have a Positive Impact on Students Achievement
Differences between teachers & Students’ views • All teachers think that visits and visitors will make children learn better and would like this to happen to make things more creative. • BUT • Students would like more trips, learning outside the classroom and more interesting and creative lessons!
Implications of the research • Why do you think there is a difference between students and teachers here?
