This article explores the possibilities for accessing and obtaining results-based financing (RBF) for REDD+ activities in Ecuador. It discusses the importance of MRVing REDD+ activities, the role of the GCF in channeling RBF, and the establishment of an Info Hub for results-based activities. The article also highlights the process and institutional arrangements for RBF in Ecuador, including opportunities for multilateral and bilateral financing, the voluntary market, and national-level initiatives. It further discusses the concept of carbon neutrality and the national recognition and certification for carbon-neutral buildings, products, and services. The article concludes with an overview of national mitigation actions in the waste sector and the economic incentives for implementing pilot projects to reduce CO2 emissions.

Considerations for accessing and obtaining results based finance under the UNFCCC • REDD+ activities should be fully MRVed to obtain and receive results-base finance (RBF) • GCF in a key role to channel adequate and predicable RBF (Decision 9/CP.19) • Establishment of an Info Hub for results based activities and corresponding payments (Decision 9/CP.19) • Parties may nominate their entities to obtain and receive results-based payments (…consistent with operational modalities of financial entities) (Decision 10/CP.19)
Under and outside of UNFCCC Results-based finance *REDD+ finance on a market based approach not yet agreed under the UNFCCC **emission reduction credits are issued and transfered

“Neutral Carbon” National Environmental Recognition Buildings Products Services Carbono Neutro • This national recognition will be granted once the proponent has succesfully completed the green house gas measurement, reduction and compensation procedure. • It will recognize activities in buildings, products and services.
National Mitigation Actions in the Waste Sector Objective: • Calculation of baseline Aplicability: • Calculation of baseline Programa para la Gestión Integral de Desechos Sólidos (PNGIDS) Description: • The program will grant economic incentives (subsidies) for the implementation of pilot projects that may serve as an example for the sector as a whole. • The incentive will be delivered expost on the basis of the amount of carbon bioxide that the proyect avoids ($/tCO2e). • The amount of the incentive depends on the type of technology implemented. • The objective is to avoid 500,000 tCO2 until december 31st 2021. • The number of proyects that will receive the incentives depends on their mitigation potential.
