  3. To begin making your preferences click on the “+” next to the term in which you would like to make a course preference.

  4. This opens a dialog box where you can then enter a course preference for that term (in this example, it is Fall).

  5. To begin making a preference, first choose the Assignment type from the left-most drop down. Note: Your school or college’s options may be different from those listed below.

  6. To continue making your preference, next choose the course from the appearing drop down menu to the right of the Assignment type.

  10. Once you have clicked on an applicable course another drop down menu will appear to the right. This menu contains the teaching modes for that course for the term in which you clicked the “+”. There may be only one teaching mode available for a given course, or there may be many, which is dependent on your school or college’s specific course offerings for that academic term or period.

  11. Once you chosen items for all the fields the “Save Preference” button will become live.

  15. You can reorder your preferences by clicking on one, and dragging your mouse to reorder them.

  16. You must complete at least 2 preferences per term, and a maximum of 6 per term to be able to submit. If selecting courses for a specific term isn’t relevant or you have a reason for not selecting teaching in a specific term there are alternative options for you to select.

  17. If selecting courses for a specific term isn’t relevant or you have a reason for not selecting teaching in a specific term there are alternative options for you to select. Your school or college may use a label called Reduced Teaching, Other Assignment, Approved Leave, etc. but selecting that assignment type is a way to communicate that you will not be selecting course preferences for that reason in that term.

  18. Once you select that relevant option, you will not be presented with a course listing field dropdown. Instead you must fill out the Notes field in order for the Save Preference button to activate.

  19. There is also a general note field at the bottom of your preferences screen you may use to communicate to administrators if there is anything that is not related to teaching of a course or alternative assignment.

  20. After selecting options and filling out your preferences in entirety, the Submit Preferences button will activate. NOTE: You must have a minimum of 2 course preferences per term OR have a non-teaching assignment type with a note in order for the Submit Preferences button to activate.

  21. If your preferences are complete and you have no additional choices or edits, click the Submit Preferences button. This opens a dialog box asking you to confirm that you would like to submit as a final step. Once you select to submit your preferences you will not be able to go back and make any edits or changes in TAMS.

  22. Congratulations! Your preferences were submitted successfully and now will be recorded in TAMS for Administrators at your school or college when they make teaching assignments!
