Certain kind of eczemas(eg. Atopic dermatitis) can cause increasedpigmentation. To manage under eye circles, a thorough investigation to rule out any iron deficiencyanaemia, Vit B12 deficiency or to rule out any systemic illness must be conducted. Treatment includes the following: 1. Adequate rest, nutritious diet, avoiding prolonged exposure to the computer screen and ahealthy work life balance.
2. In cases of periorbital melanosis due to cosmetic or any chemical use, the offendingcosmetic / chemical should be disconitnued. In these cases, a mild steroid may help inreducing the irritation and subsequently decrease the pigmentation. Topical application ofmedicines containing Retinol, Vit K, Biophytex, Proteasyl, Propylene Glycol, Dimethiconeetc. applied in the night time can help in reducing under eye circles. 3. Recent advances have suggested a role of Vit C extract in removing dark circles. 4. Chemical Peeling - Among all the available chemical peels that can be used for facialpigmentation, a small minority can be exclusively used for under eye circles. Chemicalpeels with glycolic acid, lactic acid, pyruvic acid, etc. can be used at 2-3 weeks interval forbest results. 5. LASERs - Use of LASER by a qualified dermatologist / cosmetologist can also give goodresults. So if under eye circles are bringing you down then fret not.
