  1. What Type Of Implants Are Used For Breast Augmentation Surgery? If you are considering breast augmentation surgery, there are a variety of different implant options available to you. Using a skilled surgeon like Dr. Stewart Collins means you will be made aware of all of the most suitable implants for you, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the various types, prior to committing to surgery. While some types of implant are more commonplace than others, there is generally an implant to suit every type of patient and their requirements. 1.Saline Implants Saline breast implants are very well known and are filled with sterile salt water. Saline implants offer protection against leakage as should any liquid disperse from the shell, the implant itself will collapse and the saline will be absorbed and naturally expelled by the body. Saline breast implants also help to provide a uniform shape, firmness and feel, and are FDA-approved for augmentation in women age 18 or older. 2.Silicone Breast Implants These types of implants are filled with a specially developed silicone gel. The gel feels a bit more like natural breast tissue and is popular for that reason. With silicone breast implants however, the implant will not collapse if there is any leakage. The gel can remain within the implant shall, or it may escape and flow into the breast implant pocket. These types of implants require regular inspection by a plastic surgeon to ensure that they are functioning properly. An ultrasound or MRI screening can assess the condition of breast implants and can help to keep you safe from any dangerous leakage. Silicone breast implants are FDA-approved for augmentation in women age 22 or older 3.Gummy Bear Silicone Implants Also known as “form-stable” implants, this type of implant will maintain its shape even if the implant shell is broken. Using silicone gel that is thicker than traditional silicone gel implants, they are also firmer than traditional implants. Gummy bear breast implants are shaped to give a more defined look and have more projection at the bottom and are tapered towards the top. If a shaped implant rotates however, it can in some cases lead to an unusual appearance of the breast that will requires a separate procedure to correct. Placement of gummy bear implants also requires a slightly longer incision in the skin. 4.Round Breast Implants

  2. Round breast implants are used to make breasts appear fuller than form-stable implants. Higher profile options can achieve very high level of projection. These types of implants are the same shape throughout so there is little concern about them rotating and moving out of place. 5.Smooth Breast Implants Smooth breast implants have the softest feel of all breast implant options. They can move with the breast implant pocket, leading to a more natural look and feel. They can, however, suffer from visible rippling under the skin. 6.Textured Breast Implants Textured breast implants develop scar tissue that sticks to the implant, meaning they are firmly anchored and less likely to move around inside of the breast or to become repositioned. This type of implant can help reduce the risk of developing tight scar capsule defects. Here at Collins Plastic Surgery we work with our patients to decide the best type of implant for them.
