What is it ? The Eureka Stockade was a miniature war involving the police [ Government ] and the Diggers. The Diggers were led by Peter Laylor. Many people died ,22 diggers died and over 100 diggers were taken.
Where, When and Who The Eureka Stockade started at 4:45am on the 3rd of December 1854. The guards of the police come in unexpectedly and started shooting. Peter Laylor had hidden in the pub called ‘The Eureka Hotel’. Then the guards set the pub on fire.
How did it start? It started with the diggers not wanting a license to mine. So the Government decided to take control and show them whose boss.
