  4. Author Peter, as guided by the Holy Spirit Was one of the original 12 apostles. • Was one of the inner circle of the apostles (Peter, James, & John.) • Denied Christ three times on the night of the betrayal.

  5. • He was given the “keys” to he kingdom of heaven.” He opened the doors to the Jews. Acts 2 He opened the doors to the Gentiles. Acts 11 • Was married --- 1 Corinthians 9:5 • Was an elder in the church. 1 Peter 5:1-4

  6. To Whom Written The letter is addressed to Christians in Asia Minor. It is addressed to the elect who are sojourners of the dispersion. – both Jewish and Gentiles Christians are included

  7. Why it was written To encourage brethren who were under the trials of persecution

  8. Outstanding features of the book The sufferings of Christ are mentioned in every chapter

  9. 5 Things are mentioned as precious and helpful to Christians, then and now 1. “the trial of faith” – 1:7 2. “the blood of Christ – 1:19 3. the “living stone” – 2:4-6 4. Christ himself – 2:7 5. a “meek and quiet spirit” against evil – 3:4

  13. II. Chapter content outline

  14. Chapter 1- Ours is a living hope through Christ. The trial of our faith is precious. Salvation revealed by the preaching of the gospel, redeemed by the blood of Christ, souls purified by obeying the truth.

  15. Chapter 2 - Requirements for spiritual growth. Christ, the chief corner-stone (Isa. 28:16), and the rock of offense. We are living stones in God's spiritual house. Our responsibilities in the Lord, Christ left us an example that we must suffer for Him as He suffered for us.

  16. Chapter 3 - Christian wives can win their husbands to Christ. Inward vs. outward beauty, Hindered prayers, Loving life and seeing good days. When prayers are heard and answered. Giving an answer for our hope, Noah and Christ, Baptism saves us.

  17. Chapter 4 - Christ suffered for us. Therefore, let us live for Him. Sinners astonished at purity of Christians. Genuine hospitality, Speaking as the oracles of God, Persecution will come to Christians. The name Christian (Isa. 62:1-2; Acts 11:26; 26:28), We must obey the gospel (v.17; Rom. 1:16; 6:16-17; II Thess. 1:7-9).

  20. 1:3 – Christ, the source of our hope [3] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

  21. 1:18-19 – Christ, our Redeemer [18] Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;[19] But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

  22. 2:6 – Christ, the Chief Cornerstone [6] Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

  23. 2:21 - Christ, our example [21] For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

  24. 2:24 – Christ, our sinbearer [24] Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

  25. 3:15 – Christ, our Lord [15] But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear

  26. 4:1, 13 – Christ, our sufferer [1] Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

  27. [13] But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

  28. 5:4 – Christ, our chief Shepherd [4] And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away

  29. 2:25 [25] For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

  30. Conclusion 1 Pet. 1:3-4 [3] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,[4] To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
