Press Releases Press releases are free Make a list of every local publication Publicize successful events even after the fact Include pictures and town-specific “hooks”

20 Mile March – Constant Improvement “The hallmark of mediocrity is not an unwillingness to change; the hallmark of mediocrity is chronic inconsistency.” Jim Collins – “Great by Choice” “The line between ‘authentic’ and ‘slick’ is just above your level of ability.” Ginghamsburg UMC
Session – Enable Ministry, not Control Our agenda looks like this: Opening Devotions Clerk’s Report/Approval of Minutes Moderator’s Report Committee Motions requiring Session Action Other Business Adjournment
Session – Deacon Leadership Seminars Every other month Session-Deacons meet together for a leadership event instead of their respective business meetings We discuss a topic of practical strategy and we talk about what we can do to improve. It’s like a mini-officer retreat every 60 days.
Nominating – Let the Spirit Lead As moderator serving ex-officio, I throw my weight around only in these ways: I prohibit any discussion of positional needs. I prohibit any discussion of whether it is someone’s “turn” to serve, or whether they need to be a deacon “first.” The discussion will be signs of spiritual gifts.
Concrete Steps Plan one visible activity And invite reporters to cover it Put tables and chairs out for coffee hour And invest in enough food so they sit First class Web presence Leaders talking like leaders, not controllers
