eBooks in public libraries in NZ • 90% of public library customers have access to eBooks and eAudiobooks • www.overdrive.com • 3 regional consortia + 3 metropolitans • Regional consortia implemented in December 2011
Money changes everything • Hutt City Libraries could not afford to go it alone • 15 members of the ePukapuka consortia • Hutt City Libraries has the most residents • Per annum subscription for each member • Half of the subscription is used for purchasing content
How it works for customers • Library members log in with their library card number and PIN number • Choice of 1 week or 2 week loan period • Limit of 5 items at a time per borrower • Limit of 5 reserves at a time per borrower • Can check items back in before they are due • Overdue items simply disappear
