1. Cheshire “Lifestyle Center” Myths and Reality
2. “All that glitters is not gold…….” W.Shakespeare The Merchant of Venice WS Weiner’s presentations have been slick marketing pieces showing what the Lifestyle Center “could” or “might” look like.
Existing Weiner developments provide good reasons to be skeptical and see these “Lifestyle Centers” for what they are…..shopping centers…..no more, no less.
Acres of blacktop, traffic congestion, light pollution, water pollution, strain on town services, additional crime and a loss of Cheshire’s uniqueness are clearly shown in the following presentation.
Cheshire residents MUST look beyond the myth and face the reality of what could be coming to our community……….
3. Millbury, Massachusetts This location was one of the examples used by Weiner during its early video presentations to the Town Council, Economic Development Commission and the Chamber of Commerce in January, 2007
They showed a “Coldwater Creek” and “Talbots” type storefront as an example of the “quaint” village with “high end” stores that they proposed for Cheshire. (Note: This is not the Millbury picture that was used but it is very similar. The video presentation picture is unavailable to the public)
4. Here is the reality…the Mall at Millbury (Exit 10A from the Massachusetts Turnpike)
See the Coldwater Creek storefront?….Look closely!
And a J. S. Bank!
This is the “upscale shopping” that is being promised to Cheshire even though there is NO guarantee of what kind of stores will come here
But look at what is connected to these “high end”, “quaint” stores……..
5. The Reality…..the Mall at Millbury Here are the rest of the “Shoppes”…..a strip mall stretching for approximately three hundred yards….quaint, eh?
But wait, there is more…….
6. There is more to the “shopping experience” across the parking lot at the “Shoppes at Millbury”….these box stores face the “quaint” stores in the previous slide ….with a huge parking lot in between.
7. The “Shoppes at Millbury” are nothing but a giant shopping center…..a “retail city” perched on a hill well outside of the actual community of Millbury, Massachusetts. The Myth and…………………….the Reality Look closely to the far right in the picture below….you will see the “high end” storefronts shown in left side picture! The Myth The Reality
