Muskets • A long barreled gun, fired from the shoulder. • Normally topped with a bayonet for stabbing people. • Used on both sides of the Revolutionary War.
Muskets (Continued) • A lot of guns are called muskets because they have a similar lock, shoot a sphere shaped bullet, and have a long, rounded barrel. • A musket is loaded by stuffing black powder down the barrel, loading a bullet, then firing. • A musket can only be shot once before it has to be reloaded so that’s why they put bayonets on the end.
Black Powder • Was used to fire both muskets and cannons • May have burned down a house or two… • Was the only man made chemical explosive until the mid-1800s • More commonly known nowadays as gun powder. • Use in muskets and cannons
Cannons • An artillery that uses black powder to launch a projectile into enemy lines. • First used by the Chinese, and used on both side of the Revolutionary War. • Loosely translates to ‘tube’ or ‘reed’.
