This case study was developed by Gold Coast Institute of TAFE in conjunction with Marcus Edward Salons and Next International Salons with funding and support from the national training system’s e-learning strategy, the National VET E-learning Strategy (Strategy). The 2012-2015 National VET E-learning Strategy (‘the Strategy’) is aimed at strengthening the Australian training sector’s use of new learning technologies, stimulating innovative approaches to increasing participation in training and employment, and improving the skill levels of the Australian workforce (http://flexiblelearning.net.au).

Our goal was to incorporate the use of high speed broadband and emerging technologies to enable work based hairdressing apprentices to : • “access”interactive learning material • “collect”authentic assessment evidence • “connect”with their peers and teachers

Trained our hairdressing teachers to: • Format shift existing word learning resources and assessments workbooks to interactive PDF using adobe acrobat Pro X • Use iPads to connect, access, collect evidence , and authenticate assessments tasks • Use the following apps • PDF Expert: to complete forms and sign directly onto iPad • Evernote : e-portfolio tool to gather formative assessment and journal salon visits
