Comparing/Ordering Numbers One strategy for comparing and/or ordering numbers: • Make sure they are represented in identical forms (i.e. the numbers are all written as a decimal, fraction, percent, or radical.) • When all of the numbers are in identical forms, order them from least to greatest or vice versa. (Mr. Wells prefers to write all of the numbers as decimals, so he can compare the numbers as if they were dollar and cent quantities.) Example: Order the following list of numbers from greatest to least. One Option: Write the numbers as decimals Now order them appropriately Exaggerate Divide Divide by 100 Already a Decimal Use a Calculator (66 cents is more than 60 cents)
