Battle of the Atlantic September 1939-May 11th 1945 By: Ben Victorio, and Harris Lytwyn
Countries Allies: Canada, protecting supply convoy ships on route to Britain Versus: Axis Germany, using U-boats to sink allied convoy ships
Objectives Germany: Create a U-boat blockade to prevent Allied supply ships from bringing supplies to Europe. Canada To escort Allied supply ships from North America to Europe. Destroy German U-boats sinking supply ships.
Weapons • River Class Destroyer • Fleet Class Destroyer • Tribal Corvette Flower • Castle Class Corvette • FW 200 Condor
Factors • First 3 weeks Germans lost 31 U-boats • By November 1942 German U-boats were unable to sink many supply boats and were driven to the mid Atlantic away from convoy routes • Allies sunk 800 U-boats(30,000 of 39,000 sailors) • With only 200 U-boats, Germany could barely sink supply boats
Consequences Allies: After the fall of France German U-boats could easily go into the Atlantic Germans sunk 250000 tonnes of supplies, only one 3rd could be replaced Axis: Near the end of the battle Germans only had 200 U-boats out of 1000
