BIBLIOGRAPHY WHAT IS A BIBLIOGRAPHY AND WHY IS IT PART OF A RESEARCH PAPER? • alphabetical listing of the sources you consulted in your research • include all sources: sources you footnoted and any source you consulted in any form. • show the reader where your information came from
BIBLIOGRAPHY FORMAT • each entry begins at the left margin (no numbers) • each subsequent line indented about five spaces. • each entry is single-spaced, with a double-space between individual entries • entries are arranged alphabetically by the author’s last name • use the first major word in the title if there is no author
FOOTNOTES (ANNOTATION) • WHY DO WE FOOTNOTE PAPERS? • credit the work of others • allows the reader evaluate your research • failing to do so is plagiarism
FOOTNOTE FORMATING • history papers utilize the Chicago (Turabian) style • this is different than the MLA style used in English • footnote number is placed at the end of the sentence after the punctuation • footnote numbers are numbered consecutively throughout the entire paper.
FOOTNOTE FORMATING • footnotes go at the bottom of the paper, separated from the text by a line • each footnote should be single-spaced • each footnote number corresponds to the number in the text of the paper • eTurabian
