  3. The Last Supper Leonardo da Vinci • It was painted on the back wall of the dining hall at the Dominican convent of Sta. Maria delle Grazie in Italy • He wanted to experiment with a new style called Tempera(egg yolk and vinegar plus oil paint on dry plaster) • He could use more colors and redo portions using Tempera • Painted it from 1495-1498

  4. Creation of Adam Michelangelo • Depicts an episode in the Book of Genesis in the Bible • Depicts God’s creation of the first human being, Adam • Located on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel • Created between 1508 and 1512

  5. St. George and the Dragon Raphael • George was the patron saint of England • Meant to be seen at close range • Highly detailed and precise setting • Took many aspects of other paintings and combined them to form this one

  6. Humanism • Great intellectual movement of the Renaissance • Believed that Greek and Latin classics contained lessons needed to lead a moral and effective life • Tried to understand works of Greeks and Romans • Taught children morality and how to write elegantly
