  3. Accomplishments: Mathematics Leadership • Strengthened District & IHE Leadership Mathematics Teaching Specialists (6) Teachers-in-Residence (4) • Strengthened School Leadership Math Teacher Leaders join Learning Teams Elementary & K-8: 138 Middle School: 22 High School: 41 Other: 4

  4. Accomplishments: Math Professional Learning • MTL & Literacy Coaching meeting (Jan) • Learning Team seminar on math (Feb) • MMP Action Plans: approx. $200,000 directly to Learning Teams (Mar-June) • UWM Courses (8 courses, approx. 200) • MTL Leadership Institute (Aug 24-25)

  6. Accomplishments: IHE • MATC & UWM Collaboration • Parallel courses for Prospective Teachers • Elementary/Middle Education Math Focus • IHE Network Conference (Aug 16-17) • 80 participants • 14 universities & colleges (2- & 4-year)

  7. Next Steps for Mathematics • Learning Team Action Plans & Mini-Grants • Math Teacher Leader monthly training • Assessment Focus • Alignment to New WKCE-CRT • K–8 Assessment Pilot • HS Foundations Level Proficiency Pilot • Expand HS Math Leadership & Learning

  9. Challenges & Needs • Principals: Sustained math learning • Learning Teams: Focused time for math • M.S. Teachers’ Math Content Knowledge • IHE Network as an official MPA element • Push for more students taking/succeeding in higher level math courses (3-4 years) • Meeting Space!!

  10. “Mathematics” on the Agenda Language rich “math” classroom. Mathematical reasoning, justification, communication. Deep, richly connected, meaningful mathematical knowledge.

  11. Accomplishments: Literacy • Refinement of Comprehensive Literacy Framework and creation of new graphic • Literacy Specialists, Coaches, & staff participated in district scoring sessions for the MPS Writing Assessment • Formulation of a plan to transform MPS into a Writing Intensive District

Accomplishments • Literacy Specialists presentations— conferences, monthly principal seminars, Division of Teaching and Learning staff meetings, DPI conferences, Hot Topics, and International Reading Association • Participation of Teaching & Learning staff in the development of state academic indicators for English/language Arts and Mathematics

Next Steps & Challenges for 2004-05 • Support for all of components of the refined Comprehensive Literacy Framework • Implement the plan for MPS as a Writing Intensive District • Formulate a Reading Intervention Model for the middle and high school levels • Continuetodevelop&implement Classroom Assessments Based on Standards (CABS) • Utilize the Professional Support Portal
