Background The Arthritis Foundation Self-Help Course has repeatedly been shown to improve arthritis-related outcomes. However, less than 1% of those with arthritis have taken ASHC. Purpose To identify barriers limiting participation, by Utah women with arthritis, in the Arthritis Foundation Self-Help Course (ASHC). Knowledge, Attitudes and Beliefs (KAB’s) of Women with Regard to the ASHC.
KAB’s of Women Continued… Qualitative Format Focus Groups- 32 participants • Five-90 minute groups (one pretest group) • 8 participants • Three moderated by a qualitative research expert from the University of Utah • Two moderated by the UAP Health Program Specialist as part of training to build capacity with in UAP $8,500
Background Prior research Women viewed physician recommendations as critically influencing their own decisions Purpose To assess the knowledge, attitudes and beliefs of primary care providers regarding patient self-management, particularly local arthritis resources. Primary Care Providers

Qualitative Format Focus Groups- 38 participants • Five-120 minute groups • Two groups with Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants • (18 participants) • Three groups with Primary Care Physicians • (Internists, General Practice and Family Practice) • (20 participants) • Moderated by a market research expert at Focused Solutions $21,000
