  3. What is a Blog? • an online diary/ website • organized chronologically by date • most recent “post” is at the top of the page • each post has a “permalink” • updated on regular basis • includes links to other sites of interest

  4. Who is Blogging? according to a Pew/Internet survey • 8% of internet users keep a blog • 39% of internet users read blogs • 95% of bloggers get news from the internet, compared with 73% of all internet users. • 77% of bloggers have shared their own artwork, photos, stories, or videos online

  5. Who has access • anyone can create a blog using • blogger.com • moveabletype.com • wordpress.org

Why are they important? • can provide more current information e.g • tsunami • hurricane katrina • now anyone can have a voice on anything • information without a “media filter” can be read by everyone • include trackback feature • a form of two-way communication • leading to blogging communities or blogoshere
