Formable Plugs Follow the three diagrams above to correctly insert ear plugs Using your index finger, middle finger and thumb, roll and compress the plug into a very thin, crease-free cylinder. Work the plug backward & forwards several times to soften the plug. Using your opposite hand as shown in Diagram 2, pull the ear slightly upward and outward to straighten the natural curve of the ear canal. While compressed, insert the plug well into the ear canal and hold it with your finger as it expands. *Note: It takes practice to fit plugs correctly and you may need several attempts. Fit Test: In the presence of a steady noise, alternately cover and uncover the ears with tightly cupped hands. With properly fitted plugs, noise should seem nearly the same whether or not the ears are covered.
Premolded Plugs • While pulling the ear outward and upward, insert the plugs until the ear feels sealed. Adjust for greatest noise reduction. • Fit Test: In the presence of a steady noise, alternately cover and uncover the ears with tightly cupped hands. With properly fitted plugs, noise should seem nearly the same whether or not the ears are covered. • Caution: Remove slowly with a twisting motion to gradually break the seal.
Semi-Insert Device • Hold the large ends of the pods and swivel them to direct the tips into the earcanal openings. Push and wiggle the pods into the canals until a snug seal is obtained. • Pulling on the outer ear while pushing on the pods will be helpful to most wearers.
Earmuffs • Adjust the headband so cushions exert even pressure around the ears. • For best protection, ear cushions should seal firmly against the head. Anything that interferes with the seal such as long hair (pull back to the extent possible), thick or poorly fitting eyeglass temples, pencils, or caps will lessen the protection. • Do not bend or reshape the headband as this will cause a loose fit and sound leakage.
