Gov. Cmte. charges Data Center Operations Committee

Executive Governance Committee for Data Center Consolidation – FY11 Deliverables • Identify and formalize decision making roles, responsibilities and authority • FY12 estimates for one-time investments in facility upgrades • Estimate for on-going operational expenses • Strategy for sustainable funding
Data Center Operations Committee • Focus on Four Areas: • Communication • Functional Requirements • Best Practices • Operational Responsibilities • Operate Shared Data Center Service Facilities
Basic Hosting Services • Included Components • Rack space & assistance with overall installation of hardware • Utilities (power, cooling, networking) • Ethernet connections at 1Gb/s • For clusters only for storage/head nodes • Mid-Tier or Research Data Center Space • Non-redundant power source • Conditioned power and battery backup (UPS)* • Notification or infrastructure events • Physical access during business hours • Requirements to Use Space • Documented Equipment Replacement Plan • Server Class and fit into 19 or 23 inch rack
Progress Report • Recurring funding secured • Multiple units moved into shared space • Academic and administrative units • Campus Cluster (first tenant) • Over 20 additional units lined up to move in • Initial moves were delayed until funding was finalized • Updated inventory in progress • More discussions forthcoming about HA needs for BC/DR
