  2. Goals of Presentation Give a brief history of PCORI. Review PCORI’s funding programs. Explain types of projects that may be suitable for PCORI funding.

Purpose of PCORI – The Affordable Care Act “The purpose of the Institute is to assist patients, clinicians, purchasers, and policy-makers in making informed health decisions by advancing the quality and relevance of evidence concerning the manner in which diseases, disorders, and other health conditions can effectively and appropriately be prevented, diagnosed, treated, monitored, and managed... Patients Engaged in Reviewing Research Applications Patients and other relevant stakeholders must be included as members of research teams and involved in all aspects of the project - from planning to dissemination Applications are evaluated and scored on patient and stakeholder engagement in the review process 50% of review panels are either patients or other key stakeholders.

Assessment of Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment Options • Comparative clinical effectiveness research compares the effectiveness and safety of preventive, diagnostic, and treatment options to create a foundation of information for personalized decision-making. • The research should offer substantial potential that the results will lead to: • Change in clinical practice. • Better decisions. • Better patient outcomes.
